FC Utrecht is launching a football academy in northern Ghana. The academy, based in Tamale, aims to develop local talent and support the community. Frans van Seumeren, owner of FC Utrecht, is one of the initiators of the Tamale Utrecht Football Academy. He is working with Abdulai Alhassan, a Ghanaian who has played football himself. Alhassan is moving back to Ghana with his wife Jolanda Goes to take on the day-to-day management of the academy. The academy will not only train footballers but also provide education and guidance. Van Seumeren hopes that the academy will produce new talent for FC Utrecht, but he also has an eye for the social and community aspects. The academy is raising funds through events such as sponsor meetings and lectures. Frans van Seumeren said that the academy should train players for a career both on and off the pitch. Other initiatives of the academy include education and guidance on health and wellness. The academy is working with local organizations to support the community. The opening of the academy is an important step for FC Utrecht to expand its influence in Ghana.
