Utrecht breaks transfer record as Douvikas departs

Utrecht confirms the departure of Tasos Douvikas to Celta de Vigo. The 24-year-old striker from Greece has signed a contract until mid-2028.

What happened?

Douvikas came to Utrecht in the summer of 2021 for 1.2 million euros and now yields a multiple of that amount. According to journalist Jeroen Kapteijns of De Telegraaf, Douvikas yields the Domstedelingen a whopping 12 million euros.

Technical director Jordy Zuidam reacts to Douvikas' departure via the club website. “The development that Tasos has undergone in Utrecht is enormous. We saw him get better every month over the past few years.”

What are the consequences for Utrecht?

Douvikas scored 19 goals in 32 league games last season, earning him the top scorer title together with Xavi Simons. The Domstedelingen finished the season with 55 goals for and 42 against, with a goal difference of +13.
